Gundam Series Watch Guide In Order (2024)

Mobile Suit Gundam remains one of the most popular and enduring anime franchises ever made. It's also one with dozens of entries, given the original Gundam anime debuted back in 1979. This can make it incredibly difficult to break into, especially if viewers wish to watch the franchise in chronological order.

Thankfully, this is somewhat simplified by the fact the overwhelming majority of the franchise takes place in one singular continuity. Even major anime in the property can be skipped for chronology's sake and put off until later. Likewise, most Gundam anime are available on at least one streaming service, if not multiple services. This makes the arduous task of watching every series in the Gundam franchise easier to achieve.

The brand's popularity spawned several shows, making many wonder how to watch Gundam in order. Doing so involves looking at each series according to its respective continuity, making the Gundam watch order easier to parse. It also requires several streaming services, however, some Gundam shows sadly remain unavailable.

Mobile Suit Gundam

Mobile Suit Gundam follows Amuro Ray as he learns to pilot an experimental mobile suit called the Gundam. After his home is destroyed in an attack by the Principality of Zeon. Amuro joins the crew of the White Base carrier as they attempt to regroup with the Earth Federation. The show is as much a Saturday morning cartoon as it is a somber meditation on the cost of war and the arbitrary lines it drives between humanity. MSG set the stage for the rest of the entire Gundam franchise, which spans more than 40 years of TV shows, manga, movies, and video games.

In this sense, the series has more in common with kids franchises such as Pokémon or Digimon than mainline Gundam.
